The Grandparents Still Speak
The Grandparents Still Speak
By Sharon Sun Eagle
Sharon “Gentle Wind” Sun Eagle is an author, artist, traditional singer and humanitarian who lives on the Mattaponi Indian Reservation in King William County, Va. She is of Shawnee descent with a Quaker background. She and her husband Sun Eagle a Mattaponi Traditional Native Spiritual Leader have long since had the vision of the Native Traditional language return to their People. The traditional language is sacred and the heart of the People
and our culture. After her husband's passing she continued with their work including a Native Grass Roots Children, Elders and Family 501c3 charity called Spirit Rising for the last 20 years. In order to help their People have the necessities of life, sponsor children to help them have a better future and to assist elders to have the essentials of life, Spirit Rising stills continues.
There will be more volumes of The Coastal Algonquian Language, The Grandparents Still Speak so that our People and others can express themselves in our beautiful culture that was mostly taken so many years ago.
